Before creating my digital artefact, I carefully studied the lectures and tutorials on the subject of BCM241, this played a key role in creating and exploring my Self Care media niche. First of all, I compiled a buyer persona for my audience, where there were mostly girls with average earnings who were interested in my chosen niche, from 16 to 30 years old, thanks to this method I was able to better understand my potential audience and create suitable content. Moreover, the observation skills I learned on the subject helped me analyze videos and posts from other bloggers who talked about self care, which helped me promote my videos by creating interesting and engaging content.
The creation of content on platforms such as TikTok and Twitter was aimed at ensuring that the content was combined with each other, while simultaneously matching the algorithms of each platform. I used as many resources and a creative approach as possible to create my digital artefact, so I was able to create attractive and informative content that helped me understand the audience’s motivation and interests.
The online persona created for my Self-Care project was a motivating and caring figure, focusing on mindfulness and emotional well-being. The key features were a positive attitude, openness to dialogue and aesthetics of visual content. I shared personal advice, facts, from various official sources that I studied.
The image differed from my daily use of social media in that it was more professionally oriented and strategically aligned. Instead of random publications, a clear plan was used here, taking into account the time of audience activity, current trends and hashtags. While personal social networks are more likely to demonstrate spontaneity, this character was aimed at creating trust and engagement, with the aim of not only inspiring, but also engaging the audience in the topic of Self-Care.
Important discoveries in the course of research and content creation in TikTok and Twitter:
One of the most significant discoveries in the process of creating content and studying the content of other bloggers was that using two video sequences in one post — the main conversational and additional dynamic video in the background — significantly increases the attention of viewers. This method allows you to stimulate visual perception and keep the audience throughout the video. This approach is based on cognitive psychology, which states that a person’s attention is directed to visually rich content, especially when it combines informativeness and entertainment.
According to the theory of multitasking, first described in Miller’s work (1956), the human brain can simultaneously process several streams of information, but attention retention depends on the attractiveness of these streams. More recent studies, such as Digital Stress: Permanent Connectivity and Multitasking (2016), show that in a digital environment, users respond to vivid and dynamic stimuli. The second visual series presented in the video creates such an incentive, helping to stand out among many other publications.
An analysis of the statistics of my publications showed an increase in viewing time with a double visual stimulus, from the first minutes of publication. I noticed that this way it is much easier to keep the viewer’s attention. Modern users are used to a rich information flow, and dual visual content becomes a way to stand out in this flow. However, there is a risk of overloading the audience, which requires a more subtle approach to using such techniques. For example, many successful bloggers in their niche use double visual stimuli, such as movie stills or trending videos in the background, to enhance the perception of their content. In my notes, I recorded observations of such publications, and then adapted them to the interests of my audience using the buyer persona model.
2. Expanding the understanding of self-care through an emphasis on mental health
Many viewers mistakenly believe that self-care is limited to physical care, such as skin or hair treatments. My content focused on mental health has helped expand this view and dispel myths in this area. To confirm this discovery, I used ethnographic methods, including observing the audience, analyzing comments and studying the content of other bloggers, and found that subscribers most often mention stress and emotional burnout as key problems. I wondered why so few people take care of themselves only externally, why is it so little talked about? After all, there is now a big trend for working with psychologists, meditation, etc., perhaps people simply do not realize that in this way they also perform self-care rituals.
During the creation of my content, I watched a lot of videos about self-care as a mental care for myself, and based on personal experience and observations, I emphasized the importance of this topic, so the basis of my publications were videos and posts about stress and solving these problems, but I also did not forget about short Twitter posts where advice was mixed with humor, which is especially important in the context of a modern culture of productivity, where constant employment is valued.
Self-care research: where are we now? Where are we going?, 2021) on the impact of stress on health confirms the need for such practices. People often ignore their emotional needs, focusing only on the outward manifestations of success and self-care. This article confirms that chronic stress and emotional burnout have a negative impact on health, increasing the risks of cardiovascular disease and cognitive decline. Thus, my content aimed at dealing with these issues is consistent with scientific evidence and meets the real needs of the audience. In addition, this kind of content helps to create a deeper emotional connection with the audience, which is important for the long-term growth of my digital artefact.
In the end, I want to note that working on my niche helped me to understand more and more deeply not only the niche of Self Care, but also to understand the algorithm of working on different platforms, learn how to analyze the audience and make a portrait of my potential audience based on the analysis. Thanks to this project, I managed to use a lot of my imagination so that the creation of my content was not only useful, but also fascinating and liked by the audience. I also realized that every niche needs to be studied in depth and there are always topics that have not yet been disclosed and are misleading.
Below I attach links to my last posts, which caused a greater response from the audience, in my opinion and analysis are more engaging and useful.
5 Quick Ways to Feel Better: 🌱 Take a deep breath. 💧 Drink some water. 📱 Set the phone aside for 30 minutes. 📖 Read a few pages of your favorite book. 🕯️ Light a candle with your favorite fragrance.
Test yourself: 🕊 Do you get enough sleep? 💧 Do you drink enough water? 🥗 Do you eat in a balanced way? 🛑 Do you say no when you need to? Self-care is the little things that make us stronger.#SelfCare#drink#water#balance
Moreover, thanks to this project, I have learned to better understand the audience, their needs and expectations. In the future, I plan to supplement my research by focusing on new methods of engagement, such as creating practical tips to improve my emotional state, without forgetting about basic physical body care.
